Mt Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is located at the north/eastern tip of Tanzania. For the adventurous, a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is a must taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views from the summit.

The upward track wends through forests that vary constantly with the altitude and finally opens out into open moorland below rocky, snow-covered Kibo plateau. It has 3 volcanic centers, Shira, Kibo, and Mawenzi. Mt. Kilimanjaro can be climbed at any time during the year. However, it is good to avoid the rainy season – April, May, and November. We arrange for different climbing routes and for a different number of days as follows:

Day 1: Arusha – Mandara Hut
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Arusha at 0800 and depart for the Marangu Gate. After registration clearance, your climb will commence at 1,720 meters to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) through the rain forest. This will take about 3 hours, however it is important to take your time as acclimatization begins from the gate.. You will have dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Meal Plan: {L, D}

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
After breakfast, you will gradually ascend via Maundi Crater (upper route) to Horombo hut, at 3,720 meters. This climb takes you out of the forest and through open moorland and forest and takes about 4-5 hours. You will have dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut (Tourist Village).
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 3: Horombo Hut – Acclimatization
This is an acclimatizing day to hike at a higher altitude, perhaps top view Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks during the day, returning to Horombo Hut for meals and overnight.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
After a good rest, resume your climb. A bit of the mountain peak can be seen while walking through the alpine desert on the way to Kibo Hut, at 4,703 meters. Kibo Hut, where you will have dinner and overnight is reached after a 5-6 hour walk.
Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 5: Kibo Hut – Acclimatization
You have a second acclimatization day today at Kibo, with a morning hike to Hans Meyer Cave, the half-way point to Gillman’s Point at 5,150 M. Return to Kibo for lunch and resting.

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Horombo Hut
You will be awakened just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). This is a 5-hour walk. You will then descend back to Kibo hut and continue your descent to Horombo Hut where you will have dinner and overnight.
