Mt Kenya

Mt. Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro and has several rivers, gorges and lakes found in the Park. See the spectacular sunrise when summiting Point Lenana, 4985m above sea level, which is an achievable challenge for any fit person. For those wanting technical climbing on the summits of Batian or Nelion, we can provide an English speaking technical guide at extra cost.

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki

Depart from Nairobi with the mountain guide and drive through Central Kenya arriving at Nanyuki Town in time for lunch.  Afternoon walks to the equator for acclimatization, dinner and overnight at Nanyuki town. Alt.2200m 3hrs 230km

Day 2: Nanyuki – Old Moses Camp
After breakfast in the hotel, drive to the Mt.Kenya National Park, Sirimon Gate. Check-in and start hiking through the rainforest with lunch en route, looking out for wild animals such as elephants, up to Old Moses camp 3300m dinner/overnight. 9km – 4hrs.

Day 3: Old Moses – Shipton Camp
Wake up early in the morning have breakfast, then hike through beautiful moorland crossing the Liki valley then along Mackinders Valley to Shiptons Camp at 4200mts. Dinner and overnight 13km – 7hrs.

Day 4: Shipton’s Camp – Acclimatization Day
Late breakfast, then depart for acclimatization climbs of 500m then descend back down to Shipton’s for lunch, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Shipton – Point Lenana Summit – Chogoria
An early 2.30 am the start, have tea and snacks then ascend at night getting to Point Lenana a 6.30 am for sunrise. Enjoy the spectacular views of the neighboring peaks of Nelion and Batian, and on clear mornings you may see Mt.Kilimanjaro in the distance. Descend to Mintos Hut for full breakfast. Then further descent through the beautiful gorges and Lake Flies. Proceed to Chogoria Banda (Mt. Kenya Lodge 2900m) for dinner and overnight. Approx walking time 12hrs.

Day 6: Chogoria – Nairobi
After breakfast set on a morning walk for 15 kilometers to meet the 4wd vehicle which will take you to Chogoria where you will have your lunch, and then connect transport transfer to Nairobi.
